RW Motorsports Kicks Off 2008 in 1st Place
RW Motorsports kicked off the 2008 USAC Silver Crown Season with a win at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix Arizona
on Saturday, February 16th.
Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. earned his second USAC K & N Silver Crown Series feature victory Saturday
night in the 50-lap "Copper on Dirt" main event presented by Sands Chevrolet at Manzanita Speedway. Coons started third and
took the lead from Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Calif. on lap 39. He led the final 12 laps in his #27 Rotondo Weirich Beast/Chevy
to beat the defending series champion Kaeding. Coons’ RW Motorsports teammate, Mat Neely, racing the #17 Rotondo Weirich
Beast/Chevy began the feature behind the rest of the field following an engine change after practice, but quickly rallied
to finish 6th in the 18 car line up.
Owner Steve Weirich attributes the victory at Manzanita to the skill and experience of driver Jerry Coons, Jr.
and the precision and quality with which team Crew Chief, Scott Benic, and his crew prepare the RW cars. RW Motorsports is
excited to begin the 2008 with such success and looks forward to building upon the performance and momentum of the victory
throughout the season.
The next USAC Silver Crown event will be held on May 23rd at the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the "Hoosier
Hundred". The upcoming event will mark the debut of the RW’s new Beast/Toyota #17 and #27 cars. RW Motorsports, in partnership
with Toyota Racing Division, will be the first team to utilize the Toyota 360 V8 engines in the Silver Crown Series.

RacingOne Report
Toyota announced that RW Motorsports, based in Fairmount, Ind., will be the first team to utilize Toyota 360
V8 engines in the 2008 USAC Silver Crown division.
The Toyota 360 V8 made its USAC Sprint Car debut on Turkey Night, November 22 at Irwindale Speedway. Bobby Santos
III, driving a car entered by Western Speed Racing of Fresno, Calif., qualified 3rd and took the lead with nine laps to go
in the 40-lap main event to post Toyota’s first-ever sprint car victory.
"We had already made the decision to go with Toyota power in our 2008 Silver Crown cars prior to Santos’
victory at Irwindale," stated RW Motorsports team owner Steve Weirich. "Seeing how competitive the engine was right out of
the box obviously gives us a lot of confidence in that decision."
Les Unger, National Motorsports Manger for Toyota Motor Sales, USA welcomed RW Motorsports to an ever-growing
list of teams who utilize Toyota race engines in USAC competition. "Steve has made a substantial commitment by converting
his Silver Crown race team to 100% Toyota power," stated Unger. "We are extremely happy that a team the caliber of RW Motorsports
will be the first to carry the Toyota brand into Silver Crown competition beginning in 2008."
"Turkey Night showed that the Toyota 360 V8 has a bright future in sprint car racing on the short tracks," added Gary Reed,
vice president of Special Racing Projects at TRD, U.S.A. (Toyota Racing Development). "Now we’ll switch our development
emphasis to working with RW Motorsports and our technical partners at Ed Pink Racing Engines to tune for the longer tracks,
up to 1.5 miles in length, featured on the Silver Crown schedule."
